This fully illustrated book has been written in English for those unfamiliar with Hungary and its leading winemakers. Against the background of Hungarian social history and the tremendous advances in modern winemaking it examines the best wine producing regions and the performance of very best growers. Divided into three sections the first introduces the reader to Hungarian landscape and history: the second summarises the history of wine and wine production and appraises the main varieties used to make fine wines in Hungary: the third section, by far the largest, takes the reader on a tour of the fine wine regions of Tokay, Eger, Villány, Szekszárd, Lake Balaton and North West Transdanubia to meet the leading winemakers, to appraise their best wines and to record their hopes and aspirations for the future. The final chapter considers on the future for wine and the opportunities for Hungarian wines in the wider wine world. The appendix includes contact details for the main wineries discussed.
