Ikon Cabernet Franc "Evangelista" 2007 Dél-Balaton

The fledgling Ikon winery, from South Balaton, has caused quite a stir with its outstanding price to quality ratio for wines around the Ft 1,000 mark.

Here comes its first full-bodied red, a Cabernet Franc no less, which we are sure will make an even bigger splash. Aged for a year in American and Hungarian oak, this rich and generous wine shows just why experts are so excited about Hungarian Cabernet Franc. This is amazingly aromatic with scents of cranberry, violets, blackcurrant, plus subtle coffee and coconut character originating from the oak, and a concentrated and juicy palate with a delicious touch of spice on the lengthy aftertaste. A very big red at a very reasonable price and a very welcome addition to the Hungarian Cabernet Franc fold.
