Sauska Tokaj - 113-111-107 Incomparable Cleanliness
44 hectares on the edges of Mád, Tokaj and Sárospatak yielding dry wines from the distinctive Tokaj varieties, Furmint and Hárslevelű, blended with international varieties. Prime numbers on the labels, great cleanliness and the kind of consciousness in the approach that we came to expect in Villány. Gábor Rakaczki, the winemaker of the estate, talked about the new thinking.
"We are trying to show something different from the wine region. We deliberately sought the other face, the new style of this region that is unique in the world and also within dry Tokaj wine. It's a very exciting task.

With the help of our Tuscan winemaker friend and advisor, Stephano Chioccioli, we tasted numerous blends blind. I was the voice of Tokaj tradition and he was the lover of world varieties. That's how the wines were eventually born: the basis is always Tokaj, while Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc merely spice things up or highlight its beauty. There was very conscious viticultural and vinicultural work carried out, of course with plenty of intuition and often with emotions running high and heated debates ensuing. At the first go, three wines came out of this: our 113 estate wine and two top wines: the 111 and the 107. It was a great wrestling match, but a new world opened up in front of our eyes, and now we can see this is the direction we wish to continue in, based on our own concept and philosophy. It involves a bit of path seeking, and if we do it well, once it can turn into guidance."
