We do not wish more from life - Harvest snap shot with László Bussay
BT: What was the vintage of 2007 like? Did the weather favour one of the grapes?
BL: We harvested in two parts: we harvested the olaszrizling and the Rhenish riesling reserved for the Esküvé in their full ripened condition, for the other wines we harvested the native substance after All-Saints' Day when 20% of the uvas were shrivelled. In the beginning of September we survived 300 mm of rain so totally we managed to get a beautiful vintage. The olaszrizling and the Rhenish riesling got botrytis nicely as well as the szürkebarát. However this is not a surprise in the case of the latter grape, every year the botrytis appears on it in larger or smaller extent.
BT: Do you have a personal favourite from the wines of 2007?
BL: Maybe the olaszrizling since I have not met such a rich rizling with citruses around here, included the Slovenian fields I know well. Beside its 10 g/l rest sugar content it has 8 g/l acid content.
BT: What is bothering you most of all in connection with grape and wine?
BL: First of all I am wondering about what will be like the wine from the csókaszőlő and pinot noir which was harvested first this year. On the other hand it is exciting that from the real nice musts what kind of wines will develop since this is always a pig in a poke.
BT: How are you getting on with this year's vintage?
BL: Today we are harvesting Rhenish riesling. The csókaszőlő and the furmint reserved for the Kerkaborum are still on the vine-stocks. The other musts are fermenting nicely and for the present they are real delicious. For example you can drink the tramini as a tea but it hits you as a church-clock. Now we are firing the oven, making the knuckle of ham, we have onion from the garden, after finishing the work we will sit down, the sun is shining through the windows nicely, we will eat a delicious meal and will not wish more from the life.
