Since the first shipment, a few cases of this deeply flavoured, powerful rosé champagne from the Béreche brothers have arrived every year. The three-hectare plot near the village of Ormes, from which they harvest the grapes, has been in the family since 1955, inherited from their maternal grandmother. In Roman times, this area around Reims was known as Campania Remensis. The soil varies greatly in these vineyards – instead of the usual lean, snow-white limestone, it gives way to lighter, sandier and more fertile earth. Thanks to this, the base wine is juicy and full-bodied. The dominant variety here is Pinot Noir (70%), which the Béreche brothers typically harvest later than their neighbours, at full ripeness. The cuvée is rounded out with 25% Chardonnay and 5% red wine for colour. The grapes from 53-year-old vines undergo whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, then it is aged for six months before being bottled for secondary fermentation, whereby it spends 36 months under cork.
The palate is rich, with a lush, smooth texture while remaining endlessly refreshing. The signature Béreche style dominates with its oxidative, tertiary, yeasty notes, but alongside the rosy golden colour, flavours of ripe cherries and scents of dried flowers also emerge. Campania Remensis stands as one of the greatest classics in the Béreche selection.
