The last time we visited the estate was in June 2022, when this wine made the deepest impression on us, and now the fresh disgorging of the new 2015 vintage has arrived. The grand cru vineyards around the village of Aÿ are regarded as one of the best Pinot Noir growing areas in the wine region. The Bérêche family cultivates two small parcels here, from which this champagne is also made. The barrel-fermented base wine, harvested from at least 50-year-old vines, was 80% Pinot Noir with 20% Chardonnay. After the unfiltered bottling, the bottles were sealed with corks for the second fermentation, followed by a patient wait of 72 months. It has a pristinely pure, inimitable character: taut structure, red berries, minty, stony, peppery and green herb notes. It’s aromatic, bright and powerful. One of the best Grower Champagnes we have tasted so far. A total of 3,700 bottles were made, out of which 12 have reached the Hungarian market. A fine wine.
