2021 was an eventful year at the Roederer house. After the introduction of the 2013 vintage of its prestige wine, Cristal, which is the highest rated so far, came another announcement. The place of the estate’s most important wine, Brut Premiere, has been taken over by Collection. Thus, from now on, all the new blends will be put onto the shelves with a serial number on them, indicating that the style of the wine region and also that of the house is changing. The now debuting blend is the 242th since the launch of the house, and it shows something new within the usual style. It was blended from classic ‘Roederer’ grapes that come from the estate’s own parcels and from producers who are close to them. 56% of the final blend comes from the 2017 vintage, almost from pure limestone soil, from the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier varieties. It is complemented by 34% tank-fermented and a further 105 barrel-aged reserve wines that go back as long as the 2009 vintage. Bottle fermentation was followed by 3-4 years of ageing.
