“We have more and more Furmint base wines, and we even make fewer of our still wines, in order to have enough for the sparkling wines. Based on our experience, and also on international feedback, Furmint is a perfect basis to make sparkling wines from – mostly as a blend. There’s only one thing that motivates us when we blend base wines: and it is how to make better wines. Furmint creates perfect harmony with the Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. It's no coincidence that the higher up we go in the wine range, the higher the proportion of Furmint there is in our sparkling wines," says György Várszegi.
The nose has complex aromas of white-fleshed fruits, toasty notes and flowers in the background. In addition to the Furmint fruits typical of the house's sparkling wines, the Chardonnay creates the balance on the palate, while the overall picture is further enhanced by a little Pinot Blanc from Somló. Grapefruit, pineapple and tropical fruits appear on the palate, with the hazelnut and brioche notes of the long ageing in the background, plus saltiness on the finish.
