At the foot of Somló Hill, at the Kreinbacher estate, the first bottles were laid down in 2014 to begin the complex and risky process known as bottle fermentation, or more broadly, traditional method sparkling wine production. The 12 years since have been a true success story: the estate now reliably makes world-class sparkling wines on a large scale. With a keen sense of balance, they blend Furmint with the varieties proven in Champagne, and they wait patiently for extended periods before disgorgement. When it comes to bottle sizes, they are also boldly opening towards larger formats, which are known to allow the wine to mature more slowly, but ultimately more beautifully and with greater finesse.
Made from blending Chardonnay, Furmint, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, this traditional method sparkling wine is based on the 2020 vintage and includes 18% of reserve wine. It was aged on fine lees for four years. Distinctly fresh yet complex, with citrus and stone fruit dominating the nose, followed by biscuit and mineral notes.
The elegant overall profile is built on the backbone of the classic sparkling wine favourite, Chardonnay, combined with the distinctive character of Furmint. On the palate, a more pronounced ripeness appears: alongside grapefruit, lime and quince, there are toasted notes and hints of toast, as well as a touch of salinity, giving it a detailed and layered character. The mousse is full and lively, and the dosage provides an ideal balance.
