There are two Bordeaux-style blends at the Sauska Villány estate that have been of key importance, benchmarks of quality, and reference points since 2006. The Cuvée 7s have been showing completely different aspects in Villány, compared to Siklós, since the beginning. Beyond the full-bodied character and the grapes varieties, the singularity of the place of growth also appears year after year.
 

After the tenth vintage, we increasingly feel that we’ve formed two characters. The base characters are given: a Mediterranean, fiery Cuvée 7 Villány that comes from a warm location, deep within the valley; and a lively, ethereal Cuvée 7 Siklós that comes from the wind-blown hilltop,” they say at the estate. 

Although the base rock of the vineyards is limestone everywhere, the style of the Siklós Cuvée is further enriched by the Makár vineyard’s calcium-rich, loess soil that comes across in the lively acidity, fruitiness and lightness of touch. In the meantime, the pronounced flavours of the Cabernet varieties appear in the produce of the Villány vineyards.

Loads of fine details, lots of similarities and differences can be recognised in the two wines that are best to learn about by tasting them.
