Tokaj 2015 vintage report

“When I work my mind is always set on whites” – Ádám Molnár

It was a job done together. The wines came out of Timi Szabó’s hands, I only added the finishing touches. We were thinking about an early harvest, we had to pay attention to the acidity a lot. Owing to the warm weather, there was hardly any need for plant protection in the Meszes and the Lapis. We’re aiming for wines with substance and this year was a partner in this respect.

Have you and Timi made any changes?

Nothing at all, we only brought time of the harvest forward. We settle the must to mirror clear, inoculate it with cultured yeast and ferment quickly. The barrel is important but for the fresh and fruity flavours, tank fermentation is necessary, too. A couple of grams of residual sugar suits our wines – that’s how they achieve good drinkability and become juicy, and are wines that people like to have another glass of. And then another one...

Eger or Tokaj? Red or white?

I come from Eger and learnt the trade with Gyuri Lőrincz, but one falls in love with Tokaj at once. So Eger and Tokaj. There isn’t red or white. When I’m at home, we drink red, as our family has always had vineyards. When I work, my mind is always set on whites.
