The mission of Zoltán Demeter goes beyond the borders of his own estate and winery. He is also determined to assist in the development of the wine region. Among other things, within his value-adding work, he established the Tokaj Foundation in 2014, which aims to present and protect wine culture, the historical past and values of Tokaj-Hegyalja, and he also takes a serious role in supporting the professional future. Thanks to the foundation’s activities, a memorial park was established in the centre of Tokaj, next to the synagogue, and a copy of a 150-year-old Tokaj-Hegyalja Album was reprinted. In 2015, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Tokaj-Hegyalja Geological Map, which was created by József Szabó in 1865, the most accurate copy of the map was made available to the general public as well. The original map from 1867 was an appendix to the famous Tokaj-Hegyalja Album.
„Maybe this special vintage was necessary so that after 13 years myself and Bortársaság could get to know each other again. The vintage made it obvious that something is happening in the world that both nature and winemaker should adapt to. The starlings knew what their task was: they arrived a month early, and we started the harvest at the beginning of September, instead of the usual end of October. One can only make good wine in big freedom, and a credible estate wine is only made if people stand behind it and the place of growth verifies them. This is more and more important in my thinking.”
