An intense oil with deep green, heavy grass, green herb and citrus notes, medium bitterness and pronounced spiciness. 100% Picual.
In 2020, the Floss Olei catalogue listed this oil among the world’s 20 best extra virgin olive oils. It’s a medium fruity oil variety that became the world’s best in its category.
Casas de Hualdo is a young, progressive producer, one of the most outstanding members of the new generation that exclusively focus on quality. They farm four varieties in the Tajo’s alluvial basin (in the Castilla-La Mancha autonomous community in the Toledo province). They make single varietal oils and blends from the Picual, Manzanilla, Cornicabra and Arbequina olive varieties. The region’s winters are cold, the summers are hot and dry with little rain. Today, several olive producers are competing in the province that yields the second largest amount, and it is starting to catch up with Andalusia (which has given many world champions). To ensure high-quality, optimal water supply is a must, so the Casas plantations are cared for by the most modern, drip irrigation system, partly from their own wells and partly from the Tajo. The harvest is done early, at the end of October. The olives are shaken into umbrellas so that they don’t touch the ground, and oil is made from them within six hours – thus helping to achieve the highest quality.
