Demeter Zoltán new vintages
In August, ice-cold sample bottles of Tokaj were lined up on the table, labelled in delicate lettering. They were the latest wines from Zoltán Demeter, including a new release. For years, the estate's dry wines have been characterised by what in Tokaj was a previously unknown lightness and finesse. Instead of the typically powerful, deeply mineral profile, Zoltán Demeter has moved towards elegance. This is now the latest in a series of vintages in which he presents us with relaxed, yet infinitely elegant and smooth wines.
Seven hectares of old-vine vineyards, a human-scale winery in which every detail has a purpose. It's that kind of artisanal authenticity, whereby everything from the pruning to the labelling is in the hands of the winemaker.
- Tokaj Furmint 2024 – Rátka, Hold-völgy and Új-hegy vineyards. A blade-like, taut structure with white-fleshed fruit, citrus and subtle saltiness. A pure, cool, thirst-quenching style. Just 4,279 bottles made.
- Szerelmi Hárslevelű 2024 – From 73-year-old vines comes a deeper, creamier, broader palate with ripe white-fleshed fruits, linden honey and delicate spices. Just 2,910 bottles made.
- Tokaj Muscat Blanc 2024 – Őszhegy, Betsek and Kakas vineyards. A modern, playful wine with notes of grape blossom, sweet spices and subtle sweetness. A joyful wine from Tokaj, with 32 g/l of residual sugar. Just 2,700 bottles made.
- Szamorodni “Eszter” 2023 – Veres, Lapis and Hold-völgy vineyards. Tropical fruits, orange peel, dried apricot and black tea on the finish. A great experience. Just 3,900 bottles made.
