The Barceló distillery, which is among the most recognized names of the Dominican Republic, became one of the country’s leading distilleries in the 1950s, and by the 1990s, it was at the forefront of international rum. The temperature and humidity of the Caribbean region provide an ideal environment for the production of rums. Its headquarters is in San Pedro de Macorís in the southeast. As is typical of the region, Barceló’s spirits are made from fresh sugar cane juice, and for the Onxy edition they chose the best of their rums aged for 10 years in heavily toasted ex-bourbon barrels, and then filtered them through real onyx stones. The robust and structured body is accompanied by toasted aromas, cherry, coffee and nuts, which are complemented by an intense, long-lasting feel of wood and vanilla.
