Bushmills, one of the world’s oldest licensed distilleries, has been operating in Northern Ireland since 1608. Known for smooth, easy-drinking single malt whiskeys, the Malaga Cask Finish is the latest addition to their range. This whiskey matures for 14 years, with the last year spent in Malaga wine barrels, which impart notes of pineapple, mango and apricot. (These fortified Spanish wines are sweet with exotic fruit flavours and a velvety texture.) The first phase of ageing takes place in first- and second-fill bourbon casks, bringing oak and vanilla notes. The nose exudes honey, vanilla and citrus, while the palate reveals ginger and cinnamon. The finish is long and fruity.
