This Isle of Harris distillery started in 2015 with just 10 people. With the establishment of the local distillery, a long-term plan began – it wants to stop the decline of population and to provide a long-term employment solution for the residents of Harris. After the local gin, now the residents here can also boast of whiskey, and the name ‘The Hearach’, which bears the name of the drink, refers to the people living on the Isle of Harris. The whiskey is aged in the island's typical climate, in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and first-fill Oloroso and Fino sherry casks. The outcome is a lightly-peated single malt with a complex structure, with aromas of freshness, flowers, honey and smoke, followed by apple sauce, cooked and candied fruits, plus vanilla and walnuts.
