Wales’ first distillery is located at the foot of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It’s a brand that was created by a group of friends, and their vision was to create a spirit as pure and valuable as Welsh gold. Thanks to the fresh spring water of the village and the special hybrid distillery (the Faraday still), it is able to produce 92% pure alcohol, instead of the average of 65-80%. The distillation processes are carried out exclusively by a team of women and they use first-class barrels for ageing (ex-bourbon, Madeira, Oloroso sherry). Portwood is a member of their Gold series, aged in former bourbon and madeira barrels, with aromas of dried fruits, dark chocolate, blueberries, toasted walnuts on the nose, then a creamy and rich texture with a little honey and spicy notes on the palate.
