Santa Margherita

The winery that started the Pinot Grigio revolution, which has turned the pink-hued grape into the most popular Italian white wine, and the world's second most sought white (after Chardonnay). It was back in 1961 when the winery had the brainwave to vinify the pink grape as a white wine, immediately separating the skins from the must in the pressing phase to make an immensely appealing, fresh, crispy and fragrant white. Anthony Terlato introduced Santa Margherita's Pinot Grigio, which comes from Alto Adige in northern Italy, to the US in 1979 and the rest, as they say, is history. Santa Margherita also makes in the Eastern Veneto and prosecco in the hills between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano.
