A groundbreaking blend of three Pinots – Pinot Gris (grey), Pinot Blanc (white), and Pinot Noir (dark or black) – from the legendary Frettner vineyard. When Franz and family planted Pinot Noir on the more calcareous, higher-lying part of the vineyard in 1999, it was only three years later, with the virgin vintage, that it became clear: half of the vines produced white grapes (Pinot Blanc), while about 10% yielded slightly darker, ‘smoky-coloured’ fruit (Pinot Gris, or Szürkebarát in Hungarian).
The idea to bring the three together came in 2021. Since then, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc have been co-fermented, topped up with the juice of Pinot Noir. In terms of colour, it falls somewhere between orange and a pale dawn-pink. With its slight astringency, it resembles a light red; while in its vibrancy, it drinks like a thirst-quenching summer white. Subtle acidity, with notes of black tea, citrus and grape juice.
Hand-harvested and hand-sorted, with spontaneous fermentation. Aged for 11 months in well-used large oak barrels, then bottled on site without fining or filtration. A distinctive, pure and original wine.
