A true returning favourite for us: Franz Weninger’s style-defining, delicately hazy, unfiltered rosé – Rózsa Petsovits. We first tasted it in 2016, and the experience redrew everything we thought we knew about rosé with elemental force. And for the label, Olivér Csepella created a timeless design, rich with details from the vibrant childhood of the hardworking grandmother, who was born in 1921.
From the Austrian side, there are lighter-bodied Blaufränkisch (Kékfrankos in Hungarian) and Merlot base wines; from the Hungarian side, a slightly denser, spicier old-vine Syrah from the Steiner vineyard. After brief skin contact, spontaneous fermentation occurred in concrete vats and used barrels, then it was bottled unfiltered and unfined with minimal added sulphur. Like most Weninger wines, this shows its best side when served cellar-cool after brief aeration. Stewed sour cherry, wild strawberry and yeasty notes on the thirst-quenching palate.
