Bernhard Ott, who is often called Mr Grüner Veltliner in Austria, refers to the 2021 vintage as outstanding. This was the winery’s 21st vintage, which is the 16th since transitioning to biodynamic growing. It is characterised by Wagram’s loess and stony soil, at 200-350 metres above sea level, and the clean, precise winemaking that relies on many years of experience. Blended from the Am Berg’s three different terroirs, the wine was spontaneously fermented in tanks, and was aged briefly. It’s a truly juicy, complex and balanced wine with minerality, citrusy acids, aromas of apple, pear, grapefruit, pepper and medicinal herbs.
