It was made from 90% Carmenère, Chile’s flagship grape variety, plus 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the dry-farmed vineyards of the Apalta Valley, the Marchigüe Valley and the Colchagua Valley. Half of it was aged in new French oak barrels for 12 months. A mix of ripe berry fruit, cool mint, eucalyptus and roast coffee on the intense nose. The palate is full and smooth, with velvety tannins and lingering, rich flavours.
The symbol of the global success of Chilean wine is Viña Montes. Situated within South America’s prestigious Cochagua Valley, the winery started from 30 hectares. Montes Alpha was the first premium Chilean wine, and is made only in the best vintages. With the Kaiken Winery, they are also at home in Argentina now.
