Merlot harvested from the vineyards of the Colchagua Valley (90%), rounded off with the most important local variety, Carmenére. The grapes grow on granite bedrock, on soil rich in clay. More than half of the wine spent 12 months in new and used French barrels. Ripe strawberry, blackberry and plum notes prevail on the nose, the months spent in oak add an elegant, toasty, caramel and vanilla flavour with a little nutmeg and cinnamon.
The symbol of the global success of Chilean wine is Viña Montes. Situated within South America’s prestigious Cochagua Valley, the winery started from 30 hectares. Montes Alpha was the first premium Chilean wine, and is made only in the best vintages. With the Kaiken Winery, they are also at home in Argentina now.
