As the name suggests, the Outer Limits series pushes the boundaries of the place of growth: the vines struggle in the practically semi-desert climate, barely 7 km from the Pacific Ocean – only the large water surface provides some relief with its cooling effect. The average annual rainfall is around 300 mm, but in the 2022 vintage, it was no more than 160 mm. Thanks to this, the grapes produce highly concentrated fruit year after year.
After the arrival of the harvested, hand-selected bunches, the must is kept on the skins for 24 hours at a temperature of below 10 degrees Celsius to release as many aromas as possible. The completely reductive winemaking is finished with 6-8 months of ageing on fine lees, after which bottling can begin.
It’s a full, round, yet explosively fresh wine with spices and melon.
The symbol of the global success of Chilean wine is Viña Montes. Situated within South America’s prestigious Cochagua Valley, the winery started from 30 hectares. Montes Alpha was the first premium Chilean wine, and is made only in the best vintages. With the Kaiken Winery, they are also at home in Argentina now.
