This charming estate, established in 1840, is located in Saint-Julien in Beaujolais, south of Burgundy. In his early 30s, Jean-Baptiste took over the family estate from his father, in 2013. Like many young French winemakers, he is committed to sustainable viticulture on his 40 hectares of vineyards, avoiding herbicides and pesticides. The vineyard rows are naturally covered with flowers and herbs, and all pruning and harvesting are done by hand.
The vineyards near the River Saône benefit from alluvial deposits of sand, silt and clay. The grapes are fermented spontaneously with wild yeast and no sulphur is used during the winemaking. The result is fresh, lively wines full of French charm, as befits a Beaujolais Nouveau. Made from ripe Gamay Noir grapes harvested from vines averaging over 50 years old, the wine undergoes carbonic maceration for five days. This process produces an aromatic, flavour-packed profile.
Crushed strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and black cherry on the nose. On the palate, it has a cocktail of red and black fruits, with silky, soft tannins and a refreshing liveliness that makes it effortlessly drinkable.
