The name ‘Les Forts de Latour’ comes from the historic plot known as ‘Enclos’. This wine was first labelled under this name in 1966, and through continuous improvements in quality, it has reached the Médoc Grand Cru Classé level. It is made with the same meticulous attention to detail as the Grand Vin, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The only significant difference, aside from the origin of the grapes, is the proportion of new barrels used during the ageing (50-60%). The blend may vary from year to year, but it always contains a higher proportion of Merlot (25-30%) than the Grand Vin.
The 2019 vintage is characterized by harmony and balance. A cool, wet spring, followed by a warm and dry summer, created the ideal conditions for an abundant crop of exceptional quality. The wine is linear and highly concentrated, yet silky smooth and round, with constantly evolving aromas both in the bottle and after opening up in the glass. It reveals immense complexity, with deep flavours of raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. On the nose, tobacco, cherry juice, black fruits, and graphite notes take centre stage.
