The biodynamic estate of the Left Bank and Margaux. The 66-hectare vineyard is located on a gravelly plateau, in one stretch, overlooking the Gironde estuary. In common with Chateau Figeac on the other side, the proportion of the varieties is unusual here too, with almost half of the grapes being Merlot, which is rare on the Cabernet-dominated Left Bank. The other half of their vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% of the total area has Petit Verdot. The wine has a deep and pure nose of blackcurrant, pepper and cedar wood, fine-grained tannins on the robust palate, with a long finish. The former estate of the Chief General of the British Army, Charles Palmer, was the first one of the wine region’s big names to opt for biodynamic farming, and they have been doing so for almost 10 years.
