2014 started with a mild, sunny spring that was followed by a relatively cool and wet summer, then by an exceptionally warm and sunny autumn that resulted in the perfect concentration and ripeness of the grapes. The Grand Vin of the estate, which is classified as a Cinquième Cru (Fifth Growth) according to the 1855 classification, has seen enormous improvement during the last decade. This is one of the winery’s best vintages, which is regarded as a benchmark. 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, aged for 16 months in French barrels, out of which 60% were new. Toasty oak notes, blackcurrant, chocolate and nutmeg, then both sour cherry and blueberry come along with time. A concentrated and expressive palate, full-bodied, very harmonious, ripe tannins, complex fruitiness, toffee, roasted cocoa beans, a long and rich finish.

Robert Parker: 92 points, Wine Spectator: 91 points, James Suckling: 93 points.
