Charles Ballot's ancestors acquired their first parcels in Meursault in the mid-17th century, and these plots remain the heart of the estate. Among their excellently situated vineyards are renowned sites like Perrières and Genevrières, where the vines can be as old as 70 years. The entire estate spans 12 hectares across the appellations of Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. All their white wines are aged in barrels, including this village-level Meursault from 2021. It is a blend from the Les Pelles, Les Corbins, Peutes Vignes and Chaumes de Narvaux parcels. The aroma reveals subtle reduction and minerality, alongside crisp, fresh white-fleshed fruits. Complex, dense and expansive, striking a balance between modernity and the traditional Meursault style.
Charles Ballot is an upcoming name from Meursault, who’s pursuing a ‘new’ direction and striving for a sophisticated, layered style, rather than full-bodied and heavy wines. His total 12 hectares of vineyards are located near Meursault in such big-name villages as Chassagne Montrachet, Volnay, Pommard and Beaune.
