In November 2023, we visited the estate of Nicolas Potel, who presented his wines with incredible energy as we moved between villages and vineyards within his remarkably broad and comprehensive range. The 2022 wines already showed very clean and intense flavours as fresh samples, and our shared favourite was this old-vine Pinot Noir, selected from a 1.7-hectare vineyard planted in 1974. Whole-bunch fermentation, aged in used barrels. Authentic, classic Burgundy flavours, with redcurrant, blood orange and sour cherry. Juicy, detailed and subtle.
