Highly-skilled viticulture, 40-50-year-old Chardonnay vines on the stony rows, precise and practical winemaking among the barrels, carried out honestly and purely. Roland Lavantureux began bottling his wines in the 1970s, on the family estate in Lignorelles. Until then, his ancestors transported the wine to the Paris market in feuillette barrels (132 litres), which were typical in the region. During the last 40 years, the five hectares of family vineyards have expanded to 20 hectares, with old Chardonnay parcels from the renowned vineyards of the area. The most important of these is Vauprin, the southern slope of the village and also one of the highest points of the wine region. They blend several parcels from here, and age them just like all their other wines, in barrels. That makes it such an infinitely balanced wine with soft, deeper flavours in addition to the taut acidity. Of course, the characteristic terroir makes its mark: the first sip is like drinking seawater.
