The only white wine from Volnay’s legendary producer, from a prestigious premier cru vineyard in the neighbouring village. In Meursault, one grape variety and two winemaking styles prevail. The authentic Meursault school became known for its honey-coloured wines with deep, nutty, buttery character, while the more modern approach seeks tension, ‘electric buzz’, citrus and vibrancy. Guillaume d’Angerville represents the latter. The border parcel is so distinctly Volnay in character that, curiously, when red wine is harvested from it, the labels bear the name Volnay. In this case, however, white bunches arrived at the historic cellar from the 1.05-hectare plot, where Chardonnay was first planted in 1905 by Guillaume’s grandfather, Sem d’Angerville. Energy, vibrancy, minerality, with little in the way of bâtonnage. Alongside the fruit and citrus, hazelnut also appears.
