This wine from Nicolas Potel’s négociant estate (based on bought-in grapes) has been the steady basis of our white Burgundy selection for years. The blend is different every year, but typically the grapes come from the 50-year-old vines of the Chardonnay villages of the Côte de Beaune. At the cellar, spontaneous fermentation is followed by a year of ageing in used oak, on fine lees. Citrus fruit, yellow apple, limestone, honey and white flowers appear on the rich, balanced palate. It’s a generic Burgundy that comes from knowing hands, which performs far above its category in every vintage.
Nicolas Potel was born and bred in Burgundy, grew up in Volnay, one of the most highly appreciated appellations in the wine region. At his négociant estate in Beaune, they vinify grapes that come from nearly 100 different places of growth, which have been cultivated with local producers from the beginning.
