This wine from Nicolas Potel’s négociant estate (based on bought-in grapes) has been the steady basis of our red Burgundy selection for years. The blend is different every year, but typically the grapes come from the 30-80-year-old plantations of the classic Pinot Noir villages of the Cote d'Or. At the cellar, the wine is spontaneously fermented, aged for one year in used oak, on fine lees. Red berries, rosehip, pomegranate, floral notes, vibrant energy on the palate with a deeper earthy, mineral character in the background. The mouthful is rich and balanced. It’s a generic Burgundy that comes from knowing hands, which performs far above its category in every vintage.
Nicolas Potel was born and bred in Burgundy, grew up in Volnay, one of the most highly appreciated appellations in the wine region. At his négociant estate in Beaune, they vinify grapes that come from nearly 100 different places of growth, which have been cultivated with local producers from the beginning.
