In Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy’s exclusive elite comes together. Parcels and vineyards here change hands only on rare occasions, and when they do, the per-hectare price is quoted in eight figures in euros. These are the world’s most valuable agricultural lands, and Mugneret-Gibourg cultivates 8 hectares in the finest locations. The estate is predominantly run by women, and if one were to generalise, its style could be described as ‘feminine’. Their village wine is typically a blend of several parcels, with de-stemmed grapes undergoing cold maceration for 4-5 days, followed by fermentation lasting close to 10 days. After pressing, the wine is aged in barrels for 18 months and bottled on-site without filtration or fining. Founded in 1933, the domaine is now led by the third generation, producing Pinot Noir in a fresh and delicate style. The exotic spices characteristic of the village also make their presence felt here.
