In Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy’s exclusive elite comes together. Parcels and vineyards here change hands only on rare occasions, and when they do, the per-hectare price is quoted in eight figures in euros. These are the world’s most valuable agricultural lands, and Mugneret-Gibourg cultivates 8 hectares in the finest locations. The estate is predominantly run by women, and if one were to generalise, its style could be described as ‘feminine’. One of their most important parcels, La Colombière, returned to the family’s ownership after decades of negotiations and was first bottled as a standalone wine in 2018. The grapes come from vines directly behind the estate, averaging 70 years old. Classic Vosne-Romanée character, with spices, vibrant flavours, violet, cherry, subtle earthy aromas and endlessly unfolding layers. Founded in 1933, the estate is now led by the third generation, producing Pinot Noir in a fresh and delicate style. The exotic spices characteristic of the village also make their presence felt here.
