While not the highest-rated vineyard in Thibault Liger-Belair's selection, this is the wine that has become most synonymous with his name over the years. Of Nuits-Saint-Georges' 178 hectares, a notably large portion, 147 hectares, is classified as Premier Cru. The absence of a Grand Cru vineyard in Nuits-Saint-Georges is a historical particularity of Burgundy, and the potential promotion of the Les Saint-Georges climat is indeed an active and debated topic. Thibault is its staunchest advocate, being the largest landowner in the 7.5-hectare vineyard, with nearly two hectares. If there is to be a 34th Grand Cru in Burgundy, this one stands a very good chance of being it.
It's a place of growth that produces rich and luminous wines, underpinned by an exciting, mineral depth. Notes of fruit, spice, earth, forest floor and mushroom consistently emerge. It is a finely-tuned, complex and elegantly structured Burgundy. When tasted, it continuously unfolds, revealing further layers over time. It offers Grand Cru depth with a Premier Cru price tag. The 2021 vintage gave Burgundy's vintners very little in quantity, but in terms of quality, it gave them all the more.
