Roland Lavantureux started bottling wine in Lignorelles, on the family estate, in the 70s. Up to that time, his ancestors had delivered the wine to the Paris market in 132-litre feuilette barrels that were typical in the region. In the last 40 years, the 5-hectare family vineyard has expanded to 20 hectares, with old Chardonnay plots in the prestigious vineyards of the area. The most important of them is Vauprin, the southern slope of the village and also one of the wine region’s highest points. What’s common in all their wines – including this one – is that they’re aged in barrels.
2021 was an exceptionally difficult vintage, but ripe and healthy fruit arrived at the cellar from areas that had been cultivated organically for two years by then. The usual tight, citrusy character of Vauprin is complemented by ripe, floral notes, and the wine is energetic, pristinely pure, concentrated, with the finish long and full-bodied. The estate's best-known wine.
