Pascal Jolivet, a cheerful Frenchman with big hair, became famous for his Loire Valley Sauvignon Blancs. Since 1993, he has been building his winery, creating wines from two classic terroirs in the Loire Valley, and has fully embraced biodynamic practices. Pascal is a travelling ambassador of the bohemian lifestyle and unique French Sauvignon Blanc, to whom the Loire wine region owes a great deal.
This year’s joyous wine from Pascal is the 2023 Attitude! Fresh, lively, and thirst-quenching.
The phrase Levures indigénes is written on the neck of the bottle, indicating spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The grapes are sourced from two distinct communes of the Central Loire: the limestone-rich soils of Chemery and the flintier terroir of Angé-sur-Cher. The Sauvignon notes are more restrained, giving it a leesy, creamy and authentic estate wine character. A sip reveals layers of vinous nuances with subtle gestures. Honest and unique, it’s harmoniously composed in every detail.
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” – Winston Churchill
Pascal Jolivet, ambassador of Sauvignon Blanc and its homeland, the Loire Valley, has put everything into the variety via the two classic places of growth – the terroir of the milder and mineral Sancerre and the flinty and lean, ‘gunpowder’ Pouilly-Fumé. He has built on their success with Attitude, from Touraine.
