The local nickname referring to the smoky aromas of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation’s wines has been put onto Pascal Jolivet’s bottles for the second year in a row. Located on the right bank of the Loire, the grapes that grow on limestone and flint-rich soil are selected and hand-harvested before being gently pressed. The crop of each plot is fermented and aged separately in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks to retain the maximum freshness. It is generally believed that out of the two classic Sauvignon Blanc appellations, the leaner, flintier and more masculine wines with more restrained fruit aromas are made here. The challenging yet high-quality vintage of 2021 is full and yet elegant, overwhelmingly mineral, complemented by flavours of citrus fruit, apples and peaches.
Pascal Jolivet, ambassador of Sauvignon Blanc and its homeland, the Loire Valley, has put everything into the variety via the two classic places of growth – the terroir of the milder and mineral Sancerre and the flinty and lean, ‘gunpowder’ Pouilly-Fumé. He has built on their success with Attitude, from Touraine.
