The “R” in the name of the Wachenheimer Riesling R stands for Reserve. It’s a blend from red and yellow sandstone, classified vineyards. Fermentation happens in 2,400-litre barrels, and the wine is kept on fine lees for three years before bottling, which gives a truly unique character to the wine. Bürklin-Wolf wines are legendary for their ageability, which in the case of single vineyard wines also means that they require a lot more time to mature after their release onto the market. The beauty of “R” is that we’re getting it when it’s ready to be consumed. A very elegant wine with a velvety texture, with thick, deep aromas. More mineral and distinctive than a fruity Riesling.
One of Germany’s largest family wineries and biodynamically cultivated estates. They have 86 hectares and instead of growing further, they’re cutting down in order to improve the biodynamic growing. Beside the dry Rieslings, they are known for their sweet wines. They classify their vineyards based in a Burgundian way.
