Similar to Imre Györgykovács' October releases, Bálint Földi traditionally releases his new vintage in November. This timing allows for two simple things: post-summer bottling maturation; and after the harvest, Bálint can finalise the labels and packaging. Everything is done with one pair of hands: four local grape varieties, cultivated over two hectares, yielding only a few thousand bottles annually.
The 2023 wines are full of energy and richness, showcasing Bálint’s refined and precise style.
This is the Olaszrizling, through which we first came to know Földi Bálint’s estate in an earlier vintage. The 2023 release is the most substantial so far, made from hand-picked, subtly botrytised grapes from the Szent György and Bács Hills. Half of it was aged in barrels, the other half in steel tanks. Classic notes of yellow flowers, reseda and almonds, alongside mineral salinity, rounded flavours and a long finish.
