The Folly winery operates in Badacsonyörs, one of the most distinctive wine regions of the Balaton Uplands, where viticulture and botanical heritage are closely intertwined. The family estate aims to authentically and clearly express the unique character of its terroir through uncompromising vineyard work and precise winemaking. The Riesling comes from two vineyards with distinctly different characters: the cooler, breezier parcels located on the top of Kisörsi Hill, and the warmer plots of the Szénégető vineyard at the base of the hill that give more concentrated wine. Both face south and benefit from excellent sunlight exposure, while their soils are composed of the region’s characteristic Permian sandstone.
The grapes are whole-bunch pressed, and after settling, the must is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Following fermentation, the wine is aged on fine lees for 6–7 months, with battonage carried out regularly.
It shows lively, well-balanced acidity, subtle residual sugar and high extract. The nose is dominated by citrus and green herbal notes, complemented by a hint of honey. On the palate, it is both taut and creamy, finishing with a slightly salty-mineral touch, rounded off by the varietal, oily, petrol-like nuances typical of Riesling.
