In 2020, the wine we got to know earlier as the member of the Panoráma series was made from the sand, loess and marine soil of the Ráthonyi-domb that is currently undergoing organic transition. The hand-harvested Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) was spontaneously fermented in barrels, then it was bottled without malolactic fermentation after spending 10 months in 1,200-litre, oval Stockinger barrels. From the vintage that was hard to judge earlier, we’re finding more and more excellent, aged white wines such as the Csobáncz Ráthonyi-domb Zöldveltelini. Besides the white pepper, citrusy-spicy, gooseberry, green apple aromas that are typical of the Austrian variety, the minerality of the place of growth, the concentration of the grapes and the intense colour and fullness that were brought along by the ageing get a strong emphasis. It’s an ethereal, big wine, at the beginning of its career with the elegance that characterises the place of growth.
