Villa Tolnay’s white blend, Tenger (i.e. sea) has been our great favourite ever since the first vintage. Based on its varietal composition – Chardonnay, Riesling, Olaszrizling and Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) – it could even be called an estate wine, but it’s much more of a selection, made from the winery’s nicest barrels. The fermentation of the wines began in the barrels of big-name cooperages – in large oval Stockinger barrels and in Francois Fréres’ highly sought Burgundy barrels, in which the wine was also aged for a year. After bottling in August 2020, at least a year and a half has passed, and the wine is now in its best shape. Csobánc’s characteristic cooler stoniness, a layered and balanced palate, with subtle oaky flavours, and good balance between the proportions of the varieties.
