A harmonious interplay of favourite grape varieties, excellent vintages, selected barrels and the inimitable flavours of extended ageing. The Villaera is, in a sense, a synopsis of Villa Tolnay. An old lesson: if you want to understand the character of a vineyard, choose a single-vineyard wine, but if you’re curious about a winemaker’s style, start with the estate wine, whereby the blend has more room to express itself. Nevertheless, the vintage still exerts a strong external influence. Philipp Oser, however, eliminated even this by blending his latest wine from five different vintages. Covering the years 2020 to 2024, the composition is 35% Riesling, 35% Furmint and 30% Olasrizling, aged in a solera-inspired method with a mix of barrel and tank maturation. The mature vintages bring depth, while the younger ones contribute energy to the blend. The result is a wine that doesn’t shout, yet asserts itself: layered, vibrant and with a long finish. It wasn’t intended as a flagship, yet it quickly became the most recognizable Villa Tolnay wine. Unconventional, special.
