It comes in a light and colourless bottle, with natural cork, a bright green colour and subtle cloudiness – Kristinus' latest wine, Oliver 2022, has arrived. Not only the packaging, but also the wine itself has taken a big step towards lightness: the nose is fresh, the palate is more elevated, the alcohol content is on the low side. Instead of the honey and often intoxicating aromas of Irsai Olivér, everything here is about freshness – it opens with bursting fruitiness, freshly picked grapes, green apples and white meadow flowers. Lovely grapefruit bitterness on the palate, lively acidity, medium-long palate.
The crop of the young vines grown on the limestone, loess soil was picked by hand, then the fresh must was fermented together with the berries spontaneously in temperature-controlled tanks. After a few months of ageing on lees, it was bottled unfiltered and unfined, with a minimal (22mg/l) sulphur content.
2600 bottles were produced.
Florian Zaruba took over the management of the Kristinus estate in 2015, which is when the transformation that rewrote everything began. After a few years of preparation, in 2018, they started the transition of the entire area of the estate, on 62 hectares of vineyards and 30 hectares of pastureland and orchards. In 2022, they received the much-desired Demeter biodynamic certification, so they are also certified as the largest biodynamic grape grower in Hungary.
