The Cserszegi Fűszeres grape variety was developed by Károly Bakonyi in the Balaton-felvidék, specifically Cserszegtomaj. Through crossing Irsai Olivér and Piros Tramini (Red Traminer), Bakonyi aimed to create a variety well-suited to the local environment with a distinctive flavour and aroma profile. The variety’s popularity grew in the Badacsony wine region, where local wineries, including Szászi, cultivate and vinify Cserszegi Fűszeres.
Hand-harvested in small crates, spontaneously fermented for 14 days in chilled steel tanks post-destemming, then gently pressed and aged on fine lees for six months before being bottled unfiltered.
The wine’s deep golden colour and gentle haziness hint at a rich tasting experience. Peach and apricot aromas mingle with honey, tea and straw notes. On the palate, it reveals a dynamic character with depth and vibrant flavours. Citrus and fruity tones are complemented by soft tannins on the finish. The vibrant, lively acidity underscores the wine’s freshness, with a long and memorable finish in which fruity and tea aromas persist. An exciting wine, probably one of the most exciting in the orange wine range.
