In February 2020, standing in Dávid Bökő’s cellar, we started drawing up this Tihany red as an idea, and now the fourth vintage has arrived. The heart of the 10-hectare family estate has always belonged to Tihany, more than half of the grapes grow on the capricious and difficult-to-cultivate volcanic peninsula. The grapes cultivated via organic methods are harvested by hand, destemmed, then fermented spontaneously in open vats. The 2022 is the second vintage in the series, which was less favourable for the Kékfrankos, but extremely favourable for the Zweigelt in the Ráta vineyard. ‘Tihany a Balaton Partján’ (meaning Tihany on the banks of Balaton) eventually reached its final shape by the blending of several barrels and tanks, made almost 100% from Zweigelt. Besides the freshness, the blackberry character and lively acidity, the faint earthy, leathery aromas are the real spice. It is an excellent match for Dávid's tried-and-tested white wine, ‘Parti Sétány’. Both are unfiltered, unfined wines bottled with only minimal added sulphur.
The rumbling sound of the tractor in the background is a given. We can hear it from the spring to the autumn whenever we’re on the phone to Dávid. He learned his first lessons about viticulture from his father, together they take care of the plots of local grape growers in the Tihany-Balatonfüred-Csopak triangle.
